How do I get started? May I meet with you about my wedding cake?
You have 2 options. We do free and open tastings Sundays 1-3 with no appointment necessary, where you get to try 5 flavors, look at books, and get questions answered. It’s a really good way to get started and meet us.
…Or you can book a consultation. Consultations are done outside of the Sunday 1-3pm tasting time. At the consultation we actually talk specifics such as design, delivery time, flavors, and pricing. So if your aim is to taste more cake, then Sunday 1-3 is your time. If you would actually like to sit down and get a quote on your wedding cake, then scheduling a consult is the right thing to do. You will still get all 5 flavors for the Sunday tastings if you schedule the consult for Sunday before or after the 1-3 slot (no consultations between Sunday 1-3pm). Consultations on days other than Sunday will include 2 flavors to taste.
I hope this helped in your decision. Just give us a call if you need to schedule your consultation at 720-270-4042 or schedule a consultation online.
What’s a Sweetheart Cake?
We are the only bakery in town doing a free Sweetheart Cake to take to the hotel room after the reception. Usually the couple is too busy and don’t get a chance to have cake.
Should I freeze the top tier of my wedding cake?
No. We provide a free anniversary cake. We never encourage frozen cake. Yuck!
Can you make “this” cake?
We can replicate any cake from a picture. The couple doesn’t have to stick to our or any book. We also do a lot of techniques that other bakeries would not attempt. We aren’t scared of power tools!!
Do you charge for delivery?
Yes, but we offer free delivery on wedding cakes that serve 100 or more guests within 30 miles. Otherwise delivery is $4 per mile, but we give discounts for our favorite venues. We also offer a delivery system to make picking up your cake safe.
Are you gay friendly?
We are a gay friendly wedding vendor.
Does the bakery supply the flowers?
If the flowers are made of buttercream, yes. Fresh flowers should be provided by the florist. Please make sure the florist washes the pesticides off of the flowers prior to application, and that they have confirmed that your variety of flowers are not poisonous.
Can I have more than one flavor of cake?
Yes! We are very flexible in our flavor configurations. Even if you want 3 flavors of cake in a single tier, we can do that for no extra charge.
Do you charge extra for standard fillings, square cakes, or carrot cakes?
What’s the difference between Royal Buttercream and Victorian Buttercream?
Royal – Rich, buttery, sweeter, more vanilla, and off white in color
Victorian – Lighter, creamier, less sweet, hint of citrus, pure white in color
Does fondant taste good? What is fondant? How much is it?
Fondant is a sugar dough that is made of gelatin, powdered sugar and corn syrup. It traditionally does not taste good, because most vendors use the stuff off the craft store shelf. We, however, use a premium product which is the same brand that The Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes uses. It is much softer and tastier.
Without fondant, the upper edges will look more like the upper cake below with crisper edges. The picture beneath is a cake covered in Fondant. Fondant provides a look that can not be matched with buttercream. It also has a “glow” that can not be replicated in buttercream. We’ll cover your cake in fondant for $1.00/serving.

When do you bake your cakes based on wedding date?
2 days ahead. One day to bake. One day to decorate. Then we like the finished cake to set overnight in the refrigerator. It is a much safer ride if the buttercream is cold when you transport on the day of the wedding.
Does the same person bake the cake who frosts the cake?
Not usually, unless we absolutely have to. The owner can bake, but our pastry chef and her assistant are much better at baking. You can check out our staff, so you know who is making it here.
Are your cakes frozen, from a mix, or baked elsewhere and delivered for decoration?
No, our wedding cakes are not frozen. We feel that if someone is paying you to make them something wonderful, it truly should be wonderful. Our kitchen is on site at The Makery Cake Company, and we are very proud that we scratch bake to order. Scratch baking is 3-5 times more expensive, and well worth the price.
Can you make allergen free cakes?
We are sensitive to people with allergies such as nuts, gluten, dairy, etc. Although these items are used on premises, we will do our utmost to fulfill any allergen free orders you may have. We are also a peanut-free facility. Please let us know if we need to consider allergies with your order.
Is high fructose corn syrup in your cakes?
No, although it is used with cake mixes, it is not in any of our scratch baked cakes.
What is a sugar artist?
Your sugar artist is the person who will be creating the decor on your wedding cake. We feel it is imperative to talk to the person actually doing the decorating of your cake. You should feel confident that your vision of the perfect cake was understood by the person taking the order.
Can I meet the person who will decorate my wedding cake?
Yes, the sugar artist who performs your personalized consultation will also be decorating the wedding cake of your dreams.
What else should I know about The Makery Cake Company?
Please check out the rest of our site. We have a truly helpful website with hundreds of wedding cake with images with descriptions, frequently asked questions, base pricing, suggested (but not limited to) flavors, and more.
You can trust us to truly care about your wedding cake. We will not take more than what we can handle in a day/weekend so that we don’t compromise quality.
We have really good reviews, and a great reputation. Just Google us and see! And most helpful of all… we are nice.

Can you tell me what you charge to deliver to Boettcher Mansion? Matt and I had your cake at one of the vendor previews and loved it! We are just interested in knowing how much what it cost to have the cake delivered to Boettcher on August 25th for approximately 100 guests. Thanks!
Great question. We actually don’t charge for delivery to Boettcher if your bridal cake serves 100 people or more. We also give the Mansion’s clients a 10% discount.
Hi, what would the delivery charge be to the Molly Brown Summer House, for under 100 slices? Also, when do we need to place an order for a 10/11/12 wedding date? Thanks!
Hi Sharon,
Is this more commonly known as “The Molly Brown House” on Pennsylvania? If so it is $68. There is always the option of picking it up as well. We always put the cakes for pick up in fully enclosed boxes and provide extra “no slide” padding so it won’t move around. Please feel free to come to our free and open tastings on Sundays from 1-3pm to come meet us and taste our wonderful cake. You’ll fall in love!
This is the summer house on Wadsworth and Yale. Also, the wedding is 10/11/12, do we still have time to order from you?
Thanks, Sharon
I am on a bit of a budget, but still want an amazing cake. Are you able to make a smaller cake that is designed and then a sheet cake in the same flavor? That way everyone can admire the artist cake, and still enjoy a peice of cake, all while on a budget.
Hi Jen,
We do this all the time, no worries. Our wedding cakes start at $5/serving, but depending upon design can go up from there. The best thing to do is to get a photo of several cakes you like, and head in for a tasting and consultation. We also do free and open tastings every Sunday from 1-3pm. Just stop on in.
All the best, dez
