Chandelier cake with people smiling

It was an amazing engineering feat for our little company to build a structure that would hang a cake upside down, much less 178 servings of cake! We shouldn’t say “our little company,” actually as it took several companies working together to make it happen. Max and Livie provided the hook, Elite Entertainment provided the pin spot lighting and actually ended up not only letting us use their taller latter (and lent us some muscle to hold the cake in place while we fastened it(, the old guys at Ace Hardware up the street (who always put up with my crazy structure needs well), and my plastics guys at PlasticCare who go above and beyond because I bring them cookies…

All in all, the clients were ecstatic and even got entertainment as we painstakingly disassembled it to take it back to the kitchen to be cut. It was really a dramatic show as the cake kept climbing higher in the air as we removed a level. The heaviest layer was 25 pounds and 9 feet in the air after the other three level’s weight was removed.  I really could have used that taller latter for that, but I will be forever grateful to the nice (tall) young man that offered to “catch” it as it came down. He was great, and I wish I could have hugged him. I’m now thinking about a pulley system so that I don’t have to rely upon nice 6 foot 3 strangers in the crowd.

The structure we make was super sturdy and I can’t wait to use it again. The decor was stunning but would work well with any design.  This family will talk about this 50th-anniversary cake at every gathering for the rest of time. Shouldn’t your event make that impression?
